Blue View Chalets

Why rent a cottage in Blue Mountain Ontario in 2024?

I was walking through the subway system in Toronto, Ontario, Canada one afternoon when I bumped into an old friend.

"Hey, Amandeep!" I said.

"Hey, long time! What are you up to this summer?" she asked.

"Oh, we're spending lots of time at a Blue Mountain cottage."

"Blue Mountain??" she asked, shocked. "I thought there's nothing to do in the summer there!"

I laughed, because I hear this all the time. Most people think Blue Mountain is an exclusively winter destination. When we were young, growing up and going to Blue Mountain in the 1990s and 2000s with our family, it's true, there wasn't much to do. We would spend our weekends roaming the forest and playing cards inside the chalet.

But in 2000, when Intrawest bought the Blue Mountain ski hill from the Weider family (Jozo Weider was the original entrepreneur who turned Blue Mountain from an escarpment to a full ski resort), the area has completely transformed. There are now multiple hotels, short term rentals, restaurants, clubs, nightlife, kids activities, and way more things to do.

Here's a full list of the things to do in Blue Mountain in the summer:

  1. Visit the Blue Mountain village - cute, colourful...but expensive food!

  2. Use your private hot tub or heated pool in your rental

  3. Take the gondola ride up the mountain, walk, take photos

  4. BBQ on your private deck with a view of Blue Mountain

  5. Visit Le Scandinave Spa around the corner

  6. Visit the splash water park in the resort

  7. Play fun cottage games in your private chalet

  8. Visit the sandy beach nearby, Northwinds Beach

  9. Take the kids to the brand new Sunset Point playground right on Georgian Bay

  10. Rent paddleboards or kayaks and enjoy the clear blue Georgian Bay water

  11. Hike up Blue Mountain for a 45 minute workout, then take the gondola down

  12. Rent bikes and explore local Swiss-inspired ski chalet architecture

  13. Golf at the local Monterra Golf course, across the street from Blue View Chalets

  14. Go horseback riding

  15. Rent a boat and tour the area

  16. Fishing off the shore of Georgian Bay

I wouldn't recommend visiting Wasaga Beach from your Blue Mountain cottage unless you're prepared for a huge lineup of cars and waiting in traffic for an hour or more. The Summer is very busy and there isn't a lot of parking. Better to rent a dedicated Wasaga Beach cottage instead if that's what you're looking for.
